Engineering Manager

Nexgen Automation is currently seeking a skilled Engineering Manager to join our growing company!  Nexgen designs, installs, and maintains building automation systems to create healthy, efficient building environments in commercial/industrial facilities throughout Central PA.  Typical project types including central plants, data centers, laboratories, hospitals, K-12, higher education and commercial office building projects. 

Your primary responsibility would be to lead our engineering team in designing building automation systems based on project plans & specifications and/or proposals from our account executives. You will also collaborate with our engineering, software, graphics, and installation teams to coordinate and ensure our designs meet our contractual commitments and exceed the expectations of our clients.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Oversight and management of the project development process including, but not limited to engineering, software, graphics development and material selection/ordering. In addition, support the following:
    • Value engineering to maximize project profitability without compromising system performance and installation standards.
    • Assist with identifying and implementing change order work when required.
  • Work in conjunction with Project Managers to prioritize project workload and ensure that milestone dates are met.
  • Review existing processes, templates, and standards for continuous improvement. Key areas include:
    • Selection of standard materials.
    • Drawing templates.
    • Software standards.
    • Graphics standards.
    • Workflow processes
  • Evaluate team member skillsets and work with team members to identify opportunities for training and personnel development.
  • Financial responsibility for the execution of engineering work on time and within budget.
    • Provide updated re-estimates and percentage of completion information monthly.
    • Ensure that monthly billings are in alignment with forecasted project costs.
    • Maintain positive cash flow.
    • Forecasting of engineering workload over a rolling three month window to identify manpower requirements.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Educational preferences are as follows:

  • BSEE/BSME degree or equivalent work experience
  • Ten (10) years engineering/technical experience in the construction industry.
  • Two (2) years experience in project engineering of mechanical/control system installations.

This position will report directly to the Operations Manager.
